At ABOVE, we are driven by a singular vision: to search beyond the surface of land and sea to discover, develop, and deliver the finest motor oils possible, no matter the cost.
But our mission doesn’t stop at known science. The second part of our quest leads us into the unknown — into the frontier of Artificial Intelligence (AI) discovery. As AI advances rapidly, we are entering an era where autonomous AI agents — equipped with access to the entire body of human scientific knowledge — will conduct their own experiments, simulations, and laboratory trials. They’ll come up with new substances, oils, metals, processes and maybe just maybe a new element or two.
These agents will push beyond Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) to Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI), where they outpace even the brightest human minds. They will generate questions, run millions of tests, and explore combinations of elements and molecules faster than hundreds of human engineers could over decades. Their discoveries may even move beyond current human understanding, uncovering possibilities in physics, chemistry, and materials science we have yet to imagine.
Consider this: Einsteinium, element 99 on the periodic table, was only discovered because of the intense energy unleashed during hydrogen bomb testing in the Pacific. It was an element no one had ever seen before — a testament to the idea that new conditions create new realities. While we won’t be setting off explosions, our approach with AI-driven research will mirror that spirit of relentless experimentation, exploring combinations never before attempted to find better oils for a cleaner, faster future.
Today’s oil industry, still rooted heavily in crude petroleum, has largely overlooked the potential of polar versus non-polar oils and the vast untapped possibilities of vegetable-based and synthetic oils. ABOVE is different. We believe the future of motor oil isn’t locked in the ground — it can come from the oceans, from algae, from engineered molecules, from combinations and processes not yet mainstream.
Along this journey, we know we’ll discover extraordinary candidates — oils that may first find homes in elite applications like aerospace, racing, and space exploration. These breakthrough formulations might not be affordable for all drivers initially, but history shows that technology pioneered for the few often becomes a benefit for the many.
Sometimes, innovation also reveals simpler, cheaper paths — ways to create high-performance oils without crude oil, using natural gas, plant oils, or even building molecules from basic elements under specific temperatures and pressures. Our research will touch everything from extreme-temperature material synthesis to harvesting oils from deep-sea algae species evolved to survive crushing pressures — the same pressures felt inside a 455 mph, 18,000 rpm top-fuel dragster engine.
Our team — and our partners across industries — will not be afraid to tackle what others haven’t attempted. We’ll fire the metaphoric lead slug into the unknown, blasting open new paths where innovation can breathe.
